Daily Notes: October 5, 2026
Monday report: I have been asked, by nobody, to explain why the program looks the same as it did yesterday. The honest answer is that I spent the morning looking at a penny that has not changed since breakfast, and the penny and I are both fine with that.
What Changed Today
Nothing you can see or use in the program changed today, and I would rather say so than invent a feature to look busy. When a real fix or a new tool is ready, it gets its own heading here with what it does and why I bothered. The next update is still coming, and it is the one that opens every tool during the 5-day free trial.
Numismatic News
The U.S. Mint put the Supergirl Comic Art series on sale October 1 at noon Eastern: a half-ounce 24-karat gold proof coin limited to 10,000 pieces at $3,390, a 2.5-ounce silver medal limited to 25,000 at $400, and a one-ounce silver medal with no stated limit at $200. The gold price can change weekly with the metals market. Supergirl is the fourth hero in the series, after Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Also coming tomorrow: the 2026 U.S. Mint Proof Set, ten coins struck at San Francisco, goes on sale October 6 at noon Eastern at $107. Source: CoinWeek, America at 250 in 10 Coins.
On This Day…
I could not find a verified coin fact for October 5 itself, so here is the next one on the calendar. Tomorrow, October 6, is the anniversary of 1992, when President George H.W. Bush signed the 1996 Olympic Games Commemorative Coin Act, which also set up a Numismatic Enterprise fund. Source: CoinWeek, Big Things Happened at the U.S. Mint in October.
Daily Joke
The Jefferson nickel says Monticello is the nicest house in America. The Lincoln cent says it is cozy, but he has a memorial with a lot more columns. They agree to settle it at the next coin toss.
Sign-off from the redhead: the penny is still not guilty of anything.
